Hadleigh's wife, from a suburban middle–class background, was played by Hilary Dwyer.
Hadleigh was a sequel to a previous series, Gazette, which was first broadcast in 1968. In this, James Hadleigh was a millionaire who relocated from London to Yorkshire and bought a newspaper that had been founded by his father many years before.
